Replacing a plain bathroom mirror with an illuminated one is a small job with a big effect. It adds light where you need it for shaving or make-up, and many models now include a demister so the glass stays clear after a hot shower. UK retailer Elegant Showers stocks a wide range of LED mirrors and mirror cabinets, and the feature lists can be confusing.
This guide explains the most common features and compares seven models from the Elegant Showers range. Prices and specifications were checked on elegantshowers.co.uk on 4 November 2026 and may change.

Demister (Anti-Fog)
A demister is a heating pad behind the glass that keeps a patch of the mirror clear of steam. It is the single most useful feature in a small UK bathroom without a strong extractor fan. On Elegant Showers listings it appears as demister, anti-fog or defogger.

Shaver Socket
Some mirrors include a built-in shaver socket, which lets you charge or use an electric shaver or toothbrush at the mirror. The 500 x 700mm LED dot mirror lists its socket on the right side. If you choose this feature, remember that mirrors are mains-powered and installation should follow UK wiring rules; using a qualified electrician is the safe choice.

IP44 Rating
IP44 means the product is protected against solid objects over 1mm and against splashing water from any direction. Several Elegant Showers mirrors list this rating. Always check that the rating suits the bathroom zone where you plan to fit the mirror.
Colour Temperature
Colour temperature is measured in kelvin. The LED dot mirror lists 6400K, a cool daylight white. The large 1000 x 600mm model lets you switch between 6400K white, 4000K neutral and 3000K warm yellow light, according to its description. Cool light is good for shaving and make-up; warm light is more relaxing for an evening bath.

Bluetooth Audio
Bluetooth mirrors have built-in speakers that connect to your phone, so you can play music or podcasts without a separate speaker. The 600 x 800mm Bluetooth model also includes anti-fog and a shaving socket and was listed with a large reduction on the day we checked.

Mirror Cabinets
If storage is tight, a mirror cabinet combines a mirror, lighting and shelves. The 500 x 700mm LED mirror cabinet is 130mm deep and, according to the listing, has two adjustable tempered glass shelves, hydraulic soft-close hinges, a shaver socket, a demister and a double touch switch with dimmable light, rated at 30W.

Round or Rectangular?
Shape is mostly a question of style. Rectangular mirrors are the classic choice above a standard basin and usually give the most useful mirror area. Round mirrors, such as the 600 x 600mm model, soften a bathroom full of straight lines and look especially good above a round or oval countertop basin. Vertical models suit narrow walls, while wide landscape mirrors work best above double basins or long vanity units.
Lifespan and Running Costs
LED lighting uses little electricity. Elegant Showers says its round mirror’s LEDs are brighter and longer-lasting than typical halogen lighting, and the round mirror listing quotes an LED lifetime of over 50,000 hours. Touch switches and sensors also mean the light is only on when you need it.
Matching the Rest of the Bathroom
A new mirror often looks best as part of a wider refresh. Elegant Showers also sells other bathroom products, including furniture and the heated towel rails and radiators covered in our earlier guide. Matching widths, for example a 600mm mirror above a 600mm vanity unit, gives a neat, balanced look.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
The most common mistake is buying a mirror that is wider than the basin or vanity unit below it, which can look top-heavy. Another is forgetting about the position of an existing light switch or wall cable. Finally, many people choose a mirror without a demister to save a little money and then find it useless straight after a shower. If your bathroom has no window, the demister is well worth the small extra cost.
How to Choose
- Measure the wall space above your basin and allow some clearance at each side.
- Choose a demister if your bathroom steams up quickly.
- Pick a shaver socket only if you can have it wired safely.
- Go for adjustable colour temperature if the bathroom is also your make-up space.
- Choose a cabinet if you need storage for toiletries.
- Check whether the mirror can hang horizontally, vertically or both.
Installation Tips
Most Elegant Showers mirrors are described as delivered fully assembled with fitting instructions, and they are mains-powered rather than battery-operated. That makes them neat, with no visible cables, but it also means the electrical connection is part of the job. Plan the wiring before you tile or redecorate.
